People are becoming familiar with what is referred to as "The Sandwich Generation." This is when up to three generations of family members are living under the same roof. As the adults, we are the ones to look after the younger, and at times, older family members and this situation can become impossibly stressful to ourselves. An adult has to set the alternatives and decision-making methods for our children and love ones to eventually venture off on their own. Enabling is not good when it comes to our adult children or older family members, when it comes to facing major decisions and meeting required demands of the real world.
Even though it is good for a parent to help in a financial or emotional situation, there also comes a time everyone must gain the strength and find his or her own personal alternatives to survival. In today’s society, adult children are returning home for reasons such as financial loss due to a job cut, in between college along with transition. Remember, append their arrivals by not giving the comfortable ways to enable them and when it involves an elder, it becomes a personal choice of ways to handle their arrival without stressing you or them out.
Not everything in the "Sandwich” generation is a negative experience, for it also becomes a time to recreate bonding and finding out what is actually going on with him or her life. Just keep in mind we all deserve and need privacy and freedom because this is important to one's survival.
