Finding The Job to Work From Home

Finding a work at home job will take time, energy, and research.  Decide what you want, how much pay you want, how much time you will work and equipment needed.  Make sure you have experience that relates to the position.  Areas to consider include selling items on EBay, writing or blogging, email and survey sites, your hobbies as a business, customer service, recruiter, medical transcription, billing, coding, mystery shopper, and tutoring.

Get prepared to search.  Have your resume, cover letter, and samples of your work ready.  You will run across a lot of online advertising, but the number of legitimate work-at-home positions is very small.  If currently employed, ask if they have work at home positions.  Network with family, friends and other job seekers for information and contacts they can give you.  Check work-at-home job listings and post your resume.  Use job boards, yahoo, monster, careerbuilder.com, jobbank.com, hot jobs, etc.  Use keywords like freelance, telecommute, work at home.  Visit sites focusing on employment.  Join message forums, network groups, and work at home groups that cater to your interest.

Don't jump on a position, check it out to make sure it's not a scam.  Take time to research, and talk to others that are employed at the company.  Ask for references.  Get in writing specific job duties, what the pay is and any extra costs you may have.  It takes time to weed through all the listings, but they're there.  Be aware of unsolicited emails and listings guaranteeing financial success, listings that seem to good to be true, and don't send money for a job or directory.  Keep track of where you've applied to avoid duplication.  Keep a positive attitude and don't give up.
