America is based on a democracy in which everyone can let it be known how they wish the country to be run. People’s voices are heard through a process known as voting. In this country , people for the most part, vote without fear for their lives. Although a few radical groups have tried in the past to prevent certain groups of people from voting , their evil efforts were over thrown. There still exists certain political groups that still try to prevent some people of legal age from voting .
Voting is a right to participate in the way this country is run. We vote to make sure we are represented in the governmental decisions that could directly affect how we live in this country. Our Constitution made it a right to vote and it also made it a voluntary action . For example, when we vote for officials, we are saying, I agree with and trust this person to represent me in legislative decisions that influence how I exercise certain privileges.
Voting is a responsibility to hold sacred, the true meaning of a free democracy. If a person of legal age does not vote when given the opportunity, they are giving up the right to complain about the person elected into office. The right to complain was given up when the person failed to vote on election day.
Many people feel their one vote does not count. How untrue! Just think of the millions of people who may think their one vote does not count. The best candidate for the job may lose to the inferior candidate because millions of people thought their one vote did not count. Yes, your one vote carries a lot of weight. It is needed to put the best qualified person in office. That person is most likely to represent your best interests.
