Teaching children to play the guitar is a life skill that has many beneficial attributes. Teaching the child will take a little longer and a great amount of patience. Depending on the age of the child the  teaching style is important. And prior to beginning the first lesson, a few vital considerations factor into the successful experience of learning to play a guitar. First, what is the child's learning style? Is the child auditory and has to hear how things go before trying a task? Is the child visual and has to see how it works first? Is the child tactile and must have hands on experience before learning the new task? Is the child's temperament social and enjoys the company of others? The child may do well in a group learning environment. Is the child shy and prefers a one-on-one learning environment? This child may do well in  a private class. After the parent or guardian determines the child's learning style, a teacher or course that accommodates these traits will ensure greater success for learning to play the guitar.  Evaluating the child's learning style pays off in many ways. Once the child starts playing the guitar there are many benefits that he/she will acquire.

University studies show children that learn to play an instrument have increased brain activity. The four cortex's of the brain are stimulated. Grades in school improve tremendously. The child becomes more sociable and the confidence level increases. The child learns self discipline and diligence. This spills over into social and work ethics. The child does better in math and reading. The levels of stress decrease and the child learns a foreign language better. The benefits of learning to play the guitar or any instrument has significant benefits that will help make the child a better, more confident person.
