This article is about baseball and steroids. The writer wants a survey of how fans feel about the use of this illegal substance. Although the drug is in greater use today than anytime in sport history, it does not make drugs/steroids a moral or ethical thing to use.

The use of steroids is illegal and those athletes that choose to use it give themselves an unfair advantage over their peers.  Even if the athlete is loved by most of the game's fans, if the athlete is found to be using the steroid, he should not be made an exception. He does not deserve to be an honoree in the Hall of Fame. That is a mockery on the honor of athletes that truly worked and earned their place of recognition.

Those athletes found to be users of the illegal substance is sending the wrong message to admiring young people. The athletes' behavior is saying to young people, its alright to cheat on tests. Its alright to have others do your work and I take the credit. The message is also saying, if you get caught, just say I'm sorry. Get a slap on the hand and do what you want to do from there. That there is no place for values and honesty in the world of competition. Is this the message we want to send to people and especially young aspiring athletes?

Athletes have a great burden on their shoulders. I am sure they do not intentionally wish to become role models. However once they become known in the media, there will be a young person who wishes they could be just like that sports hero. Thus the person becomes a role model. Everything they do from that point forward will be imitated by aspiring young people.
